Living your retired life to the fullest
No matter how hard we try or how much money we spend on trying to delay the process, the simple fact of the
matter is we all get old.
However, before you decide that time has finally caught
up with you and the only thing left to do is accept the
inevitable, one can maintain a reasonable level of fitness
and health long after they have retired from the workforce.
It's all a matter of perspective and in that regard - adopting a
positive, can do attitude.
Many older folk find gardening both remedial and therapeutic.
With summer still hovering for a few more weeks there has
never been a better time to tackle some of those less arduous
outdoor activities round the home.
An hour or two in the garden whether it be vegetable or
flower or a combination of both not only gets you out in the
fresh air the end result can be quite stimulating especially if
decide to give your section a real makeover.
It's amazing how quickly you can transform what used to be a
rather unsightly mess into a garden to be proud of and at a
minimal cost too save for your labour.
It's a fair bet that you have a circle of friends who you could
swap plants with and if you entertain ideas of a larger garden
project like building a sun deck, garden trellis or resowing a
lawn then chances are you will be able to call on their services
to get the job done before autumn arrives.
If this is the case, you can always return the favour at a later
date if required. Getting together with friends on a regular
basis is good for the soul and also keeps
you up to speed with what's going on in the
Unfortunately, some people loose contact
with old work colleagues or longtime
friends for a variety of reasons and it's up to
the individual to maintain those relations.
That's not too say that you have to call or
visit on a daily basis but a weekly or
fortnightly get together provides the
opportunity to exchange views on this and
that in a relaxing, enjoyable atmosphere
that really lifts the spirits.
And it's with that in mind that a large
number of retired folk enjoy playing lawn or
indoor bowls, join walking clubs, attending
Senior Net classes to learn more about how
computers work and what they can offer by
means of instant communication with
family and friends in other parts of the country or overseas or
offer their services on a voluntary basis to various sports clubs
or charitable organisations.
Not only does the above offer the opportunity to meet others
with similar interests it also gives you a reason for staying on
top of things healthwise.
