When the gates open for the
annual Wyndham A and P Show
on the first Saturday in
December it will put the spotlight on the
133rd show to be held in this Eastern
It's an occasion well-cemented
on the rural calendar that mixes
events which have been a
mainstay of A and P Shows
through the generations, with
the meticulously planned
activities and entertainment
designed to draw the crowds
and to appeal to the show-goers
of all ages of today.
The Wyndham A and P show has
been one of the long-running
shows in the South, bringing
farming folk and townsfolk
together to enjoy all this event
has to offer.
From trade shows to side shows,
competitions to craft stalls, and
the challenge to find the best
animal across a range of
sections and categories,
Wyndham obviously does it well
which has contributed to its
Crucial to all A and P events are
the animals, with the Wyndham
show offering a vast array of categories
in which equestrian, cattle, and sheep
can be entered to find the best in their
section. The highlight of the day is of
course the Grand Parade' scheduled for
2:30 p.m where the overall winners and
champions get to celebrate their
achievements from the day with the
Grand Champion of the Show' named.
Entries for the 2012 event have been
steadily coming in and, according to
spokesperson Fiona McCabe, looks set to
have good numbers across all categories.
Within each of the categories, we cater
for many breeds and ages of exhibitors,
with specific classes planned especially
for children to be able to enter.''
Adding to the numbers and also to the
interest for this year's show is the
Holstein Friesian South Island
Championship being featured, while the
sheep dog trials will add another keenly
contested competitive aspect to the day.
On site again this year are the many
traditional events and displays which
epitomise what an A and P show is all
about creating a very diverse
programme for all to enjoy.
